The Gas Foundation PLUS! Course uses a system of accredited prior learning to allow candidates to use their knowledge and experience as evidence rather than needing a formal NVQ (or similar) to meet the entry criteria for the ACS gas courses.
This course is aimed at those candidates who hold no formal qualifications but who already have at least two years experience in working under supervision of a registered gas engineer. Unlike the standard Gas Foundation Course, there is no training provided for the Gas Foundation assessments, as candidates should have good working knowledge from working within the trade for a number of years. Full training is included however on the latter stages of the course to cover the syllabus for the ACS qualifications.
Candidates will build a portfolio of evidence covering various work areas, the portfolio needs to detail the work they have carried out on site and also have photographic evidence where possible. After the portfolio is completed and signed off by the registered engineer, there are four written assessment papers and two practical assessments to be completed which are taken in-centre, leading to the award of the BPEC Gas Foundation Certificate.
Once the Gas Foundation Certificate has been achieved, dates will be arranged for the candidate to attend the 6 day Domestic Gas Initial Training and Assessment Course. This will then allow the candidate to achieve their CCN1/CENWAT/CPA1 and Energy Efficiency certificates.
