Essential Electrics Course

This course involves testing boiler parts and it is recommended that candidates hold; CCN1 Core Gas Safety and the CEN1 Central Heating Unit.  

However, if a candidate who does not hold these qualifications wishes to attend the course they may do so, provided they accept that they are not qualified to work on gas-fired appliances.

This course is aimed at plumbing & heating installers who wish to expand their knowledge of the electrical aspects of the appliances they encounter in their day-to-day work.

It is designed to provide basic knowledge of electrical installation skills, understanding of circuitry and a logical approach to fault finding using a multimeter. It provides the basic grounding necessary to progress onto the Part P course.

 

Course Content ;

  • The basics of electricity
  • Domestic house wiring theory (Inc typical domestic circuits; earthing; safety & isolation of systems)
  • Central heating control systems (S plan & Y plan) and their functions
  • Central heating appliance controls
  • Using a logical approach for identifying and rectifying electrical faults on gas appliances
  • Use of multimeter to identify working & defective components
