This course is aimed at those candidates who have plumbing (or similar) experience but who have no formal qualification. The Gas Foundation course uses a system of accredited prior learning to allow candidates to use their knowledge and experience as a as evidence rather than needing a formal NVQ or similar.
This course combines the Gas Foundation Certificate with the CCN1 core and CENWAT (boilers and water heaters) appliance course, making it a much more cost effective solution. This course covers the extended training needed for category 3 applicants, as well as the additional courses that will be needed before applying to the Gas Safe Register for registration.
Training is designed to help candidates prepare for the National Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) assessments and also covers additional units usually needed such as the Energy Efficiency.
As part of the training program, both classroom based and workshop based activities will be carried out. A portfolio of “on site” evidence also needs to be collected; a work placement or similar will be needed to allow candidates to complete this section of the course. No assessments can be taken until the on site unit has been completed.
Cost & Duration
The combined course is taken over a total of seventeen days. This includes fourteen days of gas training and then three consecutive days for assessments.
The fourteen days training runs one day a week over fourteen weeks. The final three days for assessments are scheduled as a block.
